Orlando Partners

The City of Orlando will continue to forge meaningful public and private partnerships, supporting federal and state stimulus initiatives and pursuing opportunities for additional funding. The City is also working with other governments, partners and organizations to extend services and aid to everyone in Central Florida. To accomplish this, the City has:

  • Secured more than $6.7 million by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to implement a local Neighborhood Stabilization Program to help address the effects of high foreclosures and declining home values. The grants can also be used to offer down payment and closing cost assistance to low- to moderate-income homebuyers. The City’s Housing and Community Development Department is currently working on an implementation strategy with start date deadlines as early as March 1, 2009 for some of the initiatives.

  • Work with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s Federal Stimulus Working Group and the Mayor’s Economic Recovery Team to identify shovel ready projects that could be funded through the proposed Federal Economic Stimulus Package to accelerate local job creation and support long-term investment in Orlando’s infrastructure and economy.

  • Continue efforts with the Central Florida Partnership; MetroPlan Orlando; Orange Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia Counties; Florida Department of Transportation and LYNX to approve the SunRail project which will start generating jobs in our community in a matter of weeks after its approval.

  • Promote Florida’s Urban Transportation Coalition with MetroPlan Orlando, to ensure that our transportation systems support economic growth.

  • Partner with Orange County to encourage residents to participate in Census 2010 and promote the importance of an accurate census count which determines the amount of federal and state funding municipalities receive.

  • Mayor Dyer will host a series of Community Service Work-Alongs to encourage residents to participate in volunteer opportunities.
